Farm Food Rescue Project

The Farm Food Rescue Project was created in 2024 to "rescue" leftover produce from local, organic farms, and bring it to the Pemberton Food Bank - bridging a gap in our local food system.

Each week, farmers fill designated bins with produce that would otherwise go to waste. Volunteers pick up the bins from the farms and deliver them to the food bank. At the end of the year, farmers receive charitable donation receipts for their donated produce.

Thanks to this program, fresh produce fills the Pemberton Food Bank fridges all season, and feeds many members of our community. The program was highlighted in the Pique Newspaper in Fall 2024 - check out the article here!

2024 project impact

Last year the Farm Food Rescue Project worked with 5 local, organic farms, and brought a total of 3,500lbs of produce to the Pemberton Food Bank.

This produce was valued at over $18,000, giving farmers a significant charitable donation receipt and providing produce to the Food Bank that wouldn’t have otherwise been affordable.

“I am so grateful to the local farmers for their donations to the food bank. The importance of being able to have fresh food feeds not only my stomach but my spirit as well.”
