Community Gardens

Community gardens are an integral part of our local food system, providing growing space to community members and increasing fresh, local, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food production.

Community garden infrastructure is necessary to increase access to fresh produce, which translates to improved food affordability and food security. It also fosters social connections, and develops skills and education in healthy eating - this contributes to improved health outcomes for our entire community!

The Pemberton Creek Community Garden was the beginning of Stewardship Pemberton Society’s journey into community gardening. Seeing the success and impact of this garden has inspired a new garden project at Portage Road.

Pemberton Creek Community Garden

The Pemberton Creek Community garden began in 2005 as a Village of Pemberton initiative with 20 garden plots. Over the years, the garden has joined forces with us and grown to 75 plots! The garden is also home to our Grow-It-Forward Garden that grows food for the Pemberton Food Bank and is used as a teaching plot and community space.

NEW Community Garden coming soon…

Through community consultation, we have learned that all existing community gardens are at capacity, and land costs have increased to the point that it is out of reach for many to secure land to grow food. We are hoping to answer this call through a new community garden on Portage Road.
