Make Soil Not Waste
Workshops
We partner with the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District to facilitate their Make Soil Not Waste compost and food waste reduction program. Using their educational resources, we facilitate educational workshops and programs in the Pemberton and area C communities.
Make Soil Not Waste (MSNW) is a program from the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) that aims to promote and educate about food waste reduction, composting via local waste transfer stations, and composting at home using bear-safe practices. The program includes educational materials from the “Love Food Hate Waste” program run by the Zero Waste Council of Canada to promote better food storage at home and to encourage households to use food that would otherwise go to waste in creative recipes.
We run several workshops each year about compost, food waste reduction, and the theme of “Make Soil, Not Waste.”
In partnership with the Signal Hill Elementary School garden, we lead hands-on workshops about soil, compost, and their importance in the garden. And through our garden program at Pemberton Secondary School, we are working with their student Eco-Club to develop a school-wide compost collection program.
We collaborate with Coast to Cascades Grizzly Bear initiative to host community bear-safe composting workshops.
