Pemberton Creek Community Garden
How it Works
The Pemberton Creek Community garden is a volunteer led, organic community garden located on public land in Pemberton near the Pemberton Creek bridge accessing One Mile Lake Park. The garden began in 2005 as a Village of Pemberton initiative with a mere 20 plots. Over the years, the garden has become an independent entity, and joined forces with Stewardship Pemberton Society. A volunteer committee organizes the affairs of the garden, which includes sign-up events, educational garden tours and clean-up days.
Thanks to our volunteers, who have contributed countless hours, the garden has expanded to 75 plots. Including a free plot dedicated to the Pemberton Food Bank and used as a teaching plot under the direction of Stewardship Pemberton Society. Communal tools are stored in a hand-built garden shed (with a green roof). There is a greenhouse that is available to all members of the garden as well as evenly spaced water taps and hoses equipped with spray nozzles. Plots measure approximately 10 x 20 feet, with a user fee of $50.00 per year.
Membership Responsibilities
With membership comes responsibility, every garden plot owner must agree to a list of requirements that includes:
Organic gardening only (no chemical fertilizers)
No fruit trees, berries or corn to be grown (bear attractants)
No invasive species or plants that are considered prohibited/controlled (as defined by Canadian and BC law) to be grown
Only planting Pemberton Seed potatoes (to avoid the possibility of potato blight)
No dogs in the garden
Keeping plots weeded
Generally being respectful to their neighbors
Gardeners are expected to participate in (at least) the biannual Garden cleanup in the Spring and Fall.
