We are thrilled to host this year’s Earth Week Celebration sponsored by The Spel'ku'mtn Community Forest! Join us for an exciting week aimed at fostering environmental awareness, hands-on learning, and creative expression for children and families in our community!

All events are FREE, and registration is required. Most events are hosted at the One Mile Lake Nature Centre. Any events that are elsewhere are noted below.

POSTPONED April 18th, Cultural Plant Walk with Holly Bikadi

Join us for a guided cultural plant walk exploring how our valley has evolved into the landscape we see today. *We will work with Holly to reschedule this workshop for a later date.

Mon. April 20, 10am-12pm Eco-Art & Storytime with Aurora Warren

Bring your little ones out to our Eco-Art and Storytime workshop where they will be met with new, fun eco-crafts as well as a story reading with local artist Aurora Warren.

Tues. April 21, 5pm-6:30pm Nature Journaling with Lisa Richardson & Lisa Sambo

Join us for a unique Forest Journaling workshop co-facilitated with Lisa Richardson and Lisa Sambo. They will fold Indigenous teachings, gratitude practices and techniques of non-violent communication into a fun workshop, tapping into the benefits that come from expressing our gratitude for the Earth. 

Wed. April 22, 1pm-3pm Signal Hill Elementary Garden Open House

Did you know that Signal Hill has been operating a working garden since 2020? We are hosting an open day at the garden on Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd! Please come along to say hello, see the space, and find out more about our exciting year ahead, you can even pull a few weeds if you are in the mood! *The garden can be found at the back of the intermediate playground, behind the hockey court.

Thurs. April 23, 10am-11:30am Community Clean-Up at One Mile Lake

In partnership with the Village of Pemberton’s Pitch-In Week, we are hosting another clean-up at One Mile Lake! We will be cleaning up all areas around the Nature Centre and main trail areas. Pitch-In and lend a hand in helping clean-up this wonderful community space!

Fri. April 24, 6:30pm Movie Night at Pemberton & District Public Library

In partnership with the Pemberton & District Public library we are hosting a film screening of the movie Ocean with David Attenborough in celebration of his 100th birthday this year! There will be a discussion following the movie! 

*This workshop is hosted at the Pemberton & District library.

Sat. April 25, 1pm-3pm Weaving Workshop with Hiroko Takaya-Pascal

In this workshop you will get introduced to many fibres we can weave around us and will learn how to make cordage. Red cedar bark, Willow bark, Linden bark, Nettle fibre, Dandelion stem, Sedge and Garlic top…

*Bring a blanket to sit on! This workshop is located 15 minutes drive from the town centre.

Sun. April 26, 11:30-1pm Ecology Walk with Veronica Woodruff followed by

1pm-3pm Community Gathering & Open House 

Join Veronica Woodruff for a morning of knowledge sharing about local ecology and the surprising history of One Mile Lake. Learn about water flow, exciting restoration opportunities, and keep an eye out for the fascinating critters that call the lake home!

Come check out the Nature Centre at One Mile Lake and connect with other like minded folks while stopping in at our educational booths. Refreshments and light snacks provided!
